MOVIE: Les Misérables (2012)

I've finally seen the movie of my favorite musical. The movie was great. Well acted but I found that some actors are not good singers. Anne Hathaway was incredible in the film. She sang and acted wonderfully. Her performance is affecting.

However, I found that two of my favorite scenes from the musical is not as good as I expected. First, the performance of the "Master of the House" by the Thenardiers (played by Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter) is quite sad. Alun Armstrong is still the best Thenardier out there.

Second, the "Bring Him Home" performance is not as moving as expected it to be. Although it's forgivable since Hugh Jackman is not a tenor by trade.

The most moving scene for me was the final song in Jean Valjean's deathbed. It was very emotional, moving and best scene for me in the movie. I'm not ashamed to say that I shed a tear in watching it. And seeing Colm Wilkinson as the Bishop at the end of Jean Valjean's journey was a great addition to the movie.

I highly recommend this movie for everyone. Good for repeat viewing. Also, I highly recommend that you watch the theater version. If it comes to the Philippines, i will be the one of thousands who will line up to watch it. However, for now, find and watch the two previous concerts: Les Miserables: The Dream Cast in Concert (1995) and Les Miserables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary (2010). Witness the performance of Lea Salonga (as Eponine in the former and Fantine in the later) and see why Anne Hathaway was raving about her performance.
